Tips to Success for your Family Photo Session

FAMILY FILM & PHOTO SESSION | NASHVILLE, TN

From planning outfits to choosing a location to just getting your little ones out the door and to your session on time, it can definitely be a stressful situation. As a momma myself, I understand all of those feelings, so I'm sharing my favorite tips to help your session be lots of fun. I want this time to be filled with laughter and lots of memories, so that you all look back on your images and video and remember all the fun you had together.

Tip #1: Move Nap Time

I know, I know, naps and schedules are important. But as the weather gets warmer, those gorgeous golden hour sunsets get a bit later... often pushing the limits of bedtime. I personally love shooting and sunset, as it's the prettiest light. Just this once, I'd suggest letting them stay up a bit late to play under that beautiful sunset and adjust nap time so they're ready to play!

Sleepy, grumpy kiddos usually don't smile much for photos, To make sure your kiddos are smiling and happy, move their nap back a bit so that they can stay up a bit later than usual.

Tip #2: Bring Snacks!

I encourage snacks & water for children, but to avoid any spills, stains, and dirty cheeks, I'd recommend things like cheerios, Saltine Goldfish (only the saltine kind... the cheese ones are messy!) marshmallows & smarties because they won't stain! Haha!

Tip #3: Prep Outfits Ahead of Time

Don't wait until the last minute to try on outfits. Lay clothes out a few days ahead of time to make sure you have everything that you need and that everything fits well. If you need help, reach out. Every session includes wardrobe styling tips & a style guide + access to my client closet too! For tips on what to wear to your family session, check out the style guide.

Tip #4: Don't Stress

Don’t stress if your kids aren’t doing what you think they should be doing. Kids feed off of our energy, so enjoy the moment, whether it comes with tears or smiles...there is true beauty in the normal! Embrace your love, embrace your chaos, make memories...and allow me to capture the beauty that is unfolding in front of me! Be happy... no matter what. Littles feel our stress and we don’t want to feed that! I completely understand that children are unpredictable and I promise can roll with it!

Tip #5: Come to Have Fun!

This is not meant to be a stressful experience...rather a beautiful one. Come to your session without the expectation of your children being perfect, and instead embrace the season that they are in. I want you to feel exactly like you do at home when you are laying on the floor with your babies in amazement of their beauty... so in love. You are just dressed up, radiating beauty from the inside out, embracing the chaos, loving this beautiful life YOU have created.

xoxo - Jess
